  2. that the Milky Way galaxy emanates radio
  3. waves; he did not follow up his discovery,
  4. but it marked the birth of radioastronomy.

  6. Telephone Laboratories, New Jersey 1928,
  7. where he investigated causes of static that
  8. created interference on radio telephone
  9. calls. Jansky found that the centre of the
  10. Milky Way was giving out radio waves; he did
  11. not follow up his discovery, but it marked
  12. the birth of radio astronomy. The unit of
  13. signal strength in radio astronomy, the
  14. jansky (Jy), is equal to 10^-26 watts per
  15. square metre per hertz.
